Keeping you in the know
The National Safety Council has developed the Emergency Alert Network to help our nation respond to a declared public safety or health emergency. The network’s purpose is to “push” or send critical health and safety information and instructions to NSC member companies. This effort is to assist organizations in their response to emergencies, enabling them to better protect the health and well-being of customers and employees.
The network will only be activated during a declared public safety or health emergency and during situations of national or regional significance that threaten the health or safety of large segments of the population. These situations may include public health threats, such as the following scenarios:
In a declared emergency, how does the network work?
NSC receives an emergency message from CDC. NSC activates the Emergency Alert Network transmitting official emergency information and recommendations. Via the network, NSC then transmits an emergency message to the emergency contact for each participating member company. Depending on the desired delivery format (e-mail, text message, automated phone message or fax) the communication will include the official (unaltered) CDC message or links to the information. This information will also be posted on the Emergency Alert Network Web page. NSC member companies should then use this information to guide their own crisis communication and emergency plans.
How can I participate?
Network participation is free to all active National Safety Council member companies as a member benefit. NSC members are automatically enrolled in the Emergency Alert Network. Each primary contact on your membership record will receive instructions and a link to enroll one emergency contact from your organization.
What information will be sent?
Your organization will receive official CDC information and instructions. This message will include:
