The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Influenza Vaccination Week is a reminder to get vaccinated every year and protect yourself and others around you. Wednesday, Dec. 8 is Employee Health Day, reminding you to keep yourself and your coworkers healthy.
Three strains of flu are expected to circulate this season – the H1N1 pandemic strain as well as another A strain and a B strain. The CDC recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get vaccinated against these strains. Skipping the vaccine puts you at higher risk for catching the flu and puts those around you at higher risk, too.
Flu can spread rapidly through an office or workplace, causing illness and lost productivity. Annually, the flu costs businesses about $10.4 billion in direct costs for hospitalizations and outpatient visits for adults. Protect your employees by hosting a flu vaccine clinic or sending a reminder to get vaccinated. Use the employer resources on the CDC website, and find out where to get the vaccine with the Flu Vaccine Finder.
