International Truck and Bus Symposium to Discuss Recommendations for Truck and Bus Safety and Security

Itasca, IL – The International Large Truck and Bus Safety and Security Symposium, co-sponsored by the National Safety Council and Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, is being held Nov. 14-16 at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia. 

The symposium will bring together more than 300 practitioners, researchers and top government officials to discuss new research and potential recommendations for government policies affecting truck and bus safety and security.

Attendees will hear from more than 14 distinguished leaders in government, academia, and business including Annette Sandberg, administrator, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration; Jacquelyn Glassman, deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; Robert D. Jamison, deputy director, Transportation Security Administration; Derek A. Sweet, director general, Transport Canada; and Kirk Thompson, CEO, J.B. Hunt.

Research papers, group discussions, and over 70 presentations will address driver issues, fleet management, technology and design, and enforcement and compliance. Program and registration information is available at http://www.nsc.org/truckandbus/index.htm.          

The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute is an interdisciplinary, multi-disciplinary, university-level research center of Virginia Tech. VTTI was established in August 1988 in response to the U.S. Department of Transportation's University Transportation Centers Program. In cooperation with the Virginia Department of Transportation, VTTI’s primary mission is applied research, which is accomplished by attracting a multi-disciplinary core of researchers and by educating students in the latest transportation technologies through hands-on research and experience.
