Motor vehicle deaths are down 6% in the first four months of 2013.
Motor vehicle deaths for January through April of 2013 totaled 10,290. This figure is down 6% from the corresponding 4-month period in 2012.
Medically consulted motor-vehicle injuries for the first four months of 2013 are estimated to be about 1.1 million, a decrease of less than 0.5% from 2012. Medically consulted injuries are not comparable to previous disabling injury estimates.
The estimated cost of motor vehicle deaths, injuries and property damage through April was $78.6 billion, a 2% decrease from 2012. The costs include wage and productivity losses, medical expenses, administrative expenses, employer costs, and property damage.
