Itasca, IL – The National Safety Council is proud to announce that Jim Johnson, NSC group vice president of Workplace Safety Initiatives, has been invited to serve as a member of the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Manufacturing Sector Council, a group tasked with identifying major challenges for occupational safety and health in the manufacturing sector. NORA will develop a national research strategy and implementation plan to address these problems during the next decade.
“I am honored to be invited to contribute to the meaningful work of this Council,” Johnson said. “I look forward to working with other members of the Manufacturing Sector to find solutions to the leading manufacturing safety challenges.”
NORA is a partnership program to stimulate innovative research and improve workplace practices. Unveiled in 1996, NORA has become a research framework for guiding occupational safety and health research for the nation. The NORA Manufacturing Sector Council collaborates with manufacturing stakeholders such as employers, employees, government agencies, insurers, manufacturers, mass and social media, professional associations, regulators, researchers, trade associations, treatment providers and worker groups to identify the most critical occupational safety and health issues in manufacturing.
Through partnerships, the NORA Manufacturing Sector Council has developed goals, objectives and an implementation plan to address these issues. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) serves as the steward to move this national partnership forward. The NORA Manufacturing Sector Council and the University of Cincinnati, Department of Environmental Health and Education and Research Center in partnership are sponsoring the NORA Manufacturing Sector Conference: Partnerships to Improve Occupational Safety and Health, a national call for action to identify and develop partnerships to improve occupational safety and health in manufacturing. The conference is scheduled for Sept. 7-8, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The National Safety Council (nsc.org) saves lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the roads through leadership, research, education and advocacy.
