Iowa State Approval Obtained

The Iowa Department of Human Services has approved the NSC Pediatric First Aid, CPR & AED program for child care providers.  The approval is valid for 5 years and will need to be renewed in 2017. 

 

NSC Pediatric First Aid, CPR & AED Approval Renewed for Class A and Class B Child Care Centers in Louisiana

The Council has received confirmation from the State of Louisiana, Department of Health and Hospitals, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services that it has renewed its approval for NSC Pediatric First Aid, CPR & AED to be used to train employees in Class A and Class B Child Care Centers.  This two year approval will expire on June 30, 2014.  A copy of the approval letter is included below.

State of Louisiana Approval

Illinois Department of Public Health has approved our CPR & AED program as being "established to train individuals as AED users which follow the course objectives of the AHA and ARC or other nationally recognized courses".

South Carolina Bloodborne Pathogens Approval

Bloodborne Pathogens has been approved by the South Carolina Division of Health Licensing for tattoo and body piercing artists.

NSC Advanced First Aid, CPR & AED Approved in New York for Children’s Camps

We just received word that NSC Advanced First Aid, CPR & AED can be used to fulfill the first aid requirements for staff at children’s camps in the state of New York.  NSC instructors can begin teaching this course immediately. The state’s Bureau of Community Environmental Health and Food Protection will update its fact sheet in 2012 to reflect that NSC Advanced First Aid, CPR & AED is an acceptable equivalent to the American Red Cross’ course.  The fact sheet currently lists our prior edition, First Aid Taking Action, as an acceptable course.

Legislation

The National Safety Councils First Aid programs meet OSHA, state, DOT and other requirements from regulatory bodies. Our programs have been approved by many State EMS Directors, EMS Coordinators and organizations. Below are a few of the approvals that we have received. Coast Guard Approval

The United States Coast Guard has granted approval on our NSC First Aid, CPR & AED and Pediatric First Aid, CPR & AED courses until May 31, 2015.  Below is the official letter from the Coast Guard.  They have determined that our courses meet or exceed the requirements for the OCMI training for a merchant marine license. 

Please be aware of the following change of requirements:
“The course completion certificate must include the alphanumeric reference code immediately after the course title.”

The reference codes for the National Safety Council are as follows:

First Aid (NATSAF - 202)
CPR (NATSAF - 133)

American Camping Association

Girls Scouts of the USA

The National Safety Council’s First Aid, CPR & AED is approved for "Level 1 First Aider" and Advanced First Aid, CPR & AED and Emergency Medical  Response  is approved for “Level 2 First Aider”. 

Boy Scouts of America

The Boy Scouts of America issued the attached statement in 2008 adding the National Safety Council as one of the organizations providing equivalent training.

Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA)

Below are the current letter and certificate approving NSC as meeting the requirements of the State of California EMS Authority.  This approval is good until August 31, 2013.

Alberta, Canada Approval 

The Government of Alberta (Canada) has approved the following National Safety Council first aid courses for the next five years (April 2011 to April 2016):

• NSC First Aid, CPR & AED (Approval level, Emergency First Aid)
• NSC Advanced First Aid, CPR & AED (Approval level, Standard First Aid)
