The National Safety Council honored seven individuals with the Distinguished Service to Safety Award, the highest award given to safety professionals. This year's recipients were honored in Anaheim, CA, at the opening of the NSC Congress & Expo, the largest annual gathering of safety and health professionals in the United States.
The 2016 honorees were nominated by their colleagues, and for the first time applications were open to any organization.
Business and Industry Division: Daniel J. Hartwig, CSP, CIH, President, General Health & Safety Services Corp.
Campbell Institute: Michael F. Henderek, ExxonMobil Corporation (retired after 41 years of service), safety programs manager
Community Safety Division: Melissa Wandall, dynamic leader and influential speaker, president of the National Coalition for Safer Roads, founder and president of The Mark Wandall Foundation
Construction Division: Fred W. Bonewell, vice president enterprise and public safety, CPS Energy
Government & Public Sector Division: Charles C. Herrier, NRENR, CEM, occupational safety and health manager, Eastern Oklahoma VA Healthcare System
Labor Division: Rick Irwin, Safety Blue Hat, Alliant Energy/IBEW Local 965
Transportation Division: Drew Ellesmere-Jones, president, DJ Management Solutions LLC
