Wine Headaches
May 28, 1999
Wine producers need a rich harvest of grapes, but traces of the chemicals that guarantee a good crop may end up in your glass. An organic solution of today's EnvironMinute. [:10]
Do you get a headache after you drink wine? It may not be the alcohol. Traces of toxins may be the problem. Vintners use as many as 17 different chemicals to fight insects, weeds, and disease. That adds up to millions of pounds of chemicals each year. A small amount of these poisons can wind up in your wine. A single bottle of wine is not dangerous. But over time, the toxins can build up in your body. Eventually just one glass of wine may trigger a headache or other medical problems. Organic wine may be the answer. It's produced without toxic pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers, so it helps the environment, too. [:37]
The EnvironMinute is produced in cooperation with the National Safety Council and made possible by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation. [:10]
