Cleaner Cars Teacher's Manual Cleaner Cars Student's Manual | ||
Thank you for taking the time to help educate future drivers on the importance of proper car maintenance and informed driving habits that will contribute to a cleaner approach to transportation choices. This module has been created to assist you in providing information on maintaining vehicles to reduce air pollution. It is intended to be used in conjunction with your existing Driver's Education Program, health science, or auto shop classes. The materials enclosed — a video, an interactive computer program, a student's manual, and a teacher's manual — were designed in collaboration with teachers and can be used individually or together in a comprehensive program. The curriculum includes recommendations on using these materials throughout the program. Please feel free to modify these materials to meet your needs.
Why use this module?
This module is intended to increase awareness and understanding of air quality and mobile source emissions issues, driving smart, and actions individuals can take to reduce emissions. The National Safety Council (NSC) believes that focusing on new drivers will initiate a continuing pattern of responsible car maintenance and driving habits among future drivers. This module will help today's new drivers make the right choices when it comes to caring for their cars, preventing pollution, and driving smart.
NSC developed this module to teach beginner drivers how to responsibly maintain their cars and to understand the environmental and health impacts of these actions. Reaching primarily younger drivers, in conjunction with the driving lessons, will instill responsible maintenance habits which will continue throughout years of driving.
NSC has been active on traffic safety issues for many years, promoting seat belt and child safety seat use and conducting research into collision prevention techniques, driver attitudes, and methods of coping with the many hazards of daily driving. NSC currently trains about three million drivers across the country each year in defensive driving.
