  • ​The Business and Industry Division represents more than 20 major industries and provides members with opportunities to share ideas and interact with other industry professionals. The Division is comprised of eight committees:

    Business and Industry Division Spring Meeting

    The NSC Spring Divisions combined meeting will take place in San Diego May 23 and 24 at the Loews Coronado Bay Hotel. The NSC Business and Industry Division will hold its individual meetings at the hotel in the afternoon both days.

    David Jewell CSP
    Safety Advisor
    Conney Safety, Madison, WI
    Business and Industry Division Chairman

    Mr. Jewell earned a bachelor's degree in occupational safety from University of Wisconsin, Platteville, and has 30 years of experience in safety and industrial hygiene. He served as corporate safety director at Modine Manufacturing, and as safety, health and environment manager of Mayville Engineering Co., both in Wisconsin. He later took a position with Zurich Insurance, where he provided support on safety management, risk reduction, business continuity planning and product liability. He was part of the Catastrophe Team that assisted with the claims process after large natural disasters. Mr. Jewell is an OSHA instructor, and he received the 2013 Distinguished Service to Safety Award from NSC.

    Business and Industry Division Immediate Past Chairman

    Mr. Hartwig holds a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering. He uses his 45 years of experience managing safety and health to serve clients both in the United States and internationally. He has been a member of the National Safety Council since 1970 and was active in various Sections before joining Business and Industry Division leadership.

    NSC Division Program Manager

    Tammy has been employed with NSC for more than 10 years. She is responsible for managing the NSC volunteer engagement programs, meetings, websites and databases. Besides the Business & Industry Division, she also works with the Construction, Labor, Utilities and Alcohol, Drugs and Impairment divisions. Tammy can be reached at (630) 775-2227.

  • Machinery Safety Survey Results

    ​NSC conducted a survey of safety professionals concerning issues of machine safety, safety interlocks and used equipment safety. The results indicate that safety compliance still relies heavily on experience and workplace tradition.
