  • Young Professionals 2016 Spring Meeting

NSC Young Professionals members attended the Spring Divisions meeting in Austin, Texas, March 21 and 22. It was the first combined divisions meeting, and included members from NSC Business and Industry, Community Safety, Construction, Government, Transportation and Utilities divisions.

Kelly Nantel, NSC vice president of communications and advocacy, opened the session with an update on NSC strategic initiatives. Keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré delivered an inspirational speech about safety and leadership.

The opening session was followed by a networking lunch and tours. One group visited the Nuclear Engineering Teaching Lab at University of Texas to learn about keeping safe while dealing with nuclear materials. Another group went to the Circuit of the Americas racetrack to learn how participants and spectators are kept safe at this large venue. The day concluded with a networking reception for members of all divisions.

The second day, Peter Sullivan of Accenture Consulting presented Combatting the Operational Risks of the Multi-generational Workforce. The session was followed by a business meeting and presentations from NSC Transportation Senior Program Manager Deborah Trombley and FEMA National Preparedness Division Director Randall D. Meshell.

The 2017 spring meeting will again include members of multiple NSC divisions. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
