on Safety and Health at Work Call for Papers Issued

Itasca, IL - The world's safety and health experts were invited today to share their knowledge and programs at the XVII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work, to be held in September, 2005 in Orlando, Fla. The organizers of the event today issued a "Call for Papers" asking those interested in making oral presentations, or in showing their film and multimedia products, at the World Congress to submit abstracts.

The XVII World Congress is organized jointly by the National Safety Council, the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the International Social Security Association (ISSA). The National Safety Council has established a National Organizing Committee, which is also tripartite, to assist in planning and promoting the World Congress. The U.S. Department of Labor (Occupational Safety and health Administration, Mine Safety and Health Administration and the Bureau of International Labor Affairs) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health are supporting the World Congress and participating as important government partners on the National Organizing Committee. The theme of the World Congress is "Prevention in a Globalized World - Success through Partnerships". Abstract themes include: 'Impact of Globalization, Opportunities and Risks', 'Leadership in Safety and Health,' 'Challenges in a Changing World of Work,' and 'Prevention is a Value in a Globalized World.' The deadline for the submission of abstracts is March 31, 2004. Submissions can be made online at www.safety2005.org in English, French, German or Spanish, or via mail, e-mail or fax.

An International Film and Multimedia Festival will be an integral part of the World Congress. Individuals and organizations that have produced film, video and other multimedia programs for safety and health are invited to submit their productions for the Festival.
