The Dangers of Talking in Your Car, October 6, 2014

Just because you can talk to your car doesn't mean you should. Two new studies  have found that voice-activated smartphones and dashboard infotainment systems may be making the distracted driving problem worse instead of better.

Texas A&M Texas Transportation Institute

DITTE Sam Houston State University’s Impaired Driving Initiatives (IDI) Office is offering a staff-development tool to aid employers in identifying an impaired employee in the workplace.  The primary goal of the 6-hour Drug Impairment Training for Texas Employers (DITTE) program is to work with Texas employers, with the support of the National Safety Council  to educate their employees on traffic safety, specifically driving impairment, and to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on Texas highways. DITTE is funded through a grant from TxDOT.

Alcohol and Other Drugs

Ensuring Solutions to Alcohol Problems shows how employers can reduce alcohol problems among employees and their family members.

Alcohol Cost Calculator for Business developed by Ensuring Solutions to Alcohol Problems was recently updated with new data to help uncover hidden costs of alcohol to business.

Passenger Restraint

The Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Belt Program was created at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to combat low safety belt use among the nation’s CMV drivers.

Safety Belts and Child Passenger Safety

Click It or Ticket Campaign provides materials during Click It or Ticket law enforcement campaigns.

Safe Riders Traffic Safety Program provides information about child passenger safety, including links to related local and national websites. Sponsored by the Texas Department of State Health Services in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation.

TxDOT Buckle Up Your Child Campaign features downloadable fact sheets, radio spots and videos to promote safety of children riding in vehicles. Materials available in English and Spanish.

General Traffic Safety 

Occupational Motor Vehicle Safety at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

Bicycle Safer Journey is a free, online education tool designed to help educators, parents and others who care about bicycle safety to get the conversatoin started with children and youth. It is an ideal complement to Bike to School Day or Bike Month events.
