Heathy People 2020 has identified increasing immunization rates to improve the health of the American public in the next 10 years.
Goals that apply to workplaces include:
1. Increase the percentage of adults who are vaccinated anually against seasonal influenza.

- : Increase vaccination rates to 80%. A 55% increase in 10 years.
2. Increase percentage of adults who are vaccinated against pneumococcal disease - adults 65 years and older.
- : In 2008, 60 percent reported ever receiving the pneumococcal vaccination.
- : Increase to 90%; a 30% increase.
3. Increase the percentage of adults who are vaccinated against shingles (zoster).

- Assess the current rates of coverage among your employees and, if possible, their families. Use medical claims data or employee surveys to set up your baseline.
- Refer to HP 2020 and set goals based on what vaccinations are available and promoted in your workplace. Goals can vary from a 23% to a 55% increase in vaccination rates.
- Explore the program elements to develop an initiative based on your employees needs.
