Washington – Consumer Product Safety Commission Chairman Inez M. Tenenbaum announced Feb. 28 that she will not seek renomination when her term ends in October.
Sworn in July 2009, Tenenbaum focused on making the agency more accessible and transparent, as well as preventing injuries, according to a CPSC press release.
Agency accomplishments during Tenenbaum’s leadership include:
- Completing 40 final rules, including mandatory rules for durable infant and toddler products such as cribs and bath seats
- Launching the Consumer Product Safety Information Database, which allows consumers to report product safety issues and search reports submitted by others
- Collecting more than $17 million in civil penalties for violations related to lead paint and failure to report defects in a timely manner, among others
