DOT announces grants for highway safety improvements

Washington – The Department of Transportation on Aug. 2 announced $363 million in grant funding for assorted highway improvements in an effort to increase motorist safety.

Each U.S. state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico received funding for a variety of infrastructure and safety improvement projects. Among the projects:

  • Louisiana received $3 million to upgrade guardrails and add roadway striping to Interstate 10.
  • Ohio received $3.34 million to improve a two-mile stretch of I-75 known for congestion to increase safety for 104,000 daily drivers.
  • Missouri received $2 million to replace two bridges on I-44 and add a new lane to reduce congestion and increase driver safety in St. Louis County.
