Washington – A Federal Railroad Administration notice of proposed rulemaking published Sept. 7 would require commuter and intercity passenger railroads to initiate new safety programs addressing operations and maintenance activities.
The proposed programs would require collaboration between employees and administrators to identify and mitigate hazards found during daily operations. FRA stated that the proposed rule aims to increase identification of unique safety hazards and development of alternative solutions by engaging the workers who most often come in contact with operations and maintenance hazards.
Comments on the NPRM are due Nov. 6.
