New guidance covers emergency responder safety

Washington – The National Response Team recently published new guidance on keeping emergency responders safe and healthy.

The document, developed by an interagency workgroup convened by NIOSH, establishes a framework for health monitoring and surveillance called the Emergency Responder Health Monitoring and Surveillance system. It provides recommendations and tools for safety before, during and after deployment to an emergency situation.

The National Response Team is an organization of 15 federal departments and agencies responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness and response to oil and hazardous substance pollution incidents.
