Washington – OSHA will be soliciting feedback on the effectiveness of crane operator certification requirements in the Cranes and Derricks in Construction Standard during two informal stakeholder meetings scheduled for April 2-3 in Washington.

According to an OSHA press release, the agency is seeking comment on the usefulness of certifying operators for different capacities of cranes and the risks of permitting workers to operate all crane capacities within a specific type.

The final rule, published in August 2010, requires operators to be certified by November 2014. The standard also mandates that certifications from an accredited testing organization specify the “capacity and type” of cranes the worker can operate.
