Washington – OSHA on Jan. 4 updated its Site-Specific Targeting Program (.pdf file), which directs OSHA enforcement resources to high-hazard workplaces as part of an effort to reduce injuries and illnesses.

Worksites targeted for inspection will come from a pool of 80,000 non-construction establishments with 20 or more employees that submitted data on their days away, restricted or transferred (DART) rate and their days away from work injury and illness (DAFWII) case rate.

Establishments targeted by federal inspectors include those in manufacturing with DART rates of 5.0 or greater or DAFWII rates of 4.0 or greater, and non-manufacturing and non-nursing facility establishments with DART rates of 7.0 or greater or DAFWII rates of 5.0 or greater. Unlike previous years, nursing and personal care facilities are not included in the program because of the National Emphasis Program (.pdf file) targeting them.

Under this year’s SST program, some establishments included in last year’s SST will be randomly selected for inspection – regardless of their most recent DART or DAFWII rates – as part of a study measuring the program’s effectiveness.
