NSC Distracted Driving Symposium Seeks Progressive Solutions
Together, we have the power to reduce the number of people killed by distracted driving on our nation’s roadways.
That’s why NSC and Nationwide Insurance are holding the first International Symposium on Distracted Driving this
week near Washington, D.C.
Some form of driver inattention is involved in nearly 80 percent of traffic crashes in the U.S. To seek progressive
approaches to reducing deaths related to this growing public health issue, the symposium will convene traffic safety leaders,
scientists, public agency officials, lawmakers, corporate safety professionals and others who want to make a difference.
Symposium participants will focus on understanding the science behind distracted driving and exploring possible solutions
that could be implemented by individuals, families, employers, lawmakers and public agencies. Approaches discussed will include
public education, employer policies, state and local laws, and technology. The symposium will conclude with recommendations for
action steps.
The NSC supports science-based measures to reduce crashes, injuries and deaths. A variety of safe driving tips are
available from our online
