NSC Presents Inaugural Lorraine Pack Memorial Scholarship to D’Andrea Prim

Award will help Ms. Prim in her efforts to pursue a degree in safety – an industry where women are underrepresented.

October 20, 2020

Itasca, IL – The National Safety Council is pleased to announce that it is awarding the first Lorraine Pack Memorial Scholarship to D’Andrea Prim to assist in her pursuits of a degree in EHS – environment, health and safety. Women are underrepresented in the EHS field, and the scholarship seeks to provide women with critical resources and networking opportunities that can help shape their future professional goals. Ms. Prim is a student at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.

The Lorraine Pack Memorial Scholarship is a new scholarship program that includes a tuition grant and the opportunity to attend either NSC Congress and Expo, the world’s largest annual gathering of EHS professionals, or the Campbell Institute Symposium, where thought leaders from around the globe gather for an open exchange of forward-looking ideas and best practices.

“Women bring a unique perspective and voice to the EHS table, and their contributions are not only welcome, but necessary,” said Lorraine M. Martin, NSC president and CEO. “We are thrilled to award the first Lorraine Pack Memorial scholarship to D’Andrea, and we look forward to awarding many more qualified women to come.”

Laura Fiffick of Wilbur-Ellis and Brittany Westphal founded the scholarship in memory of their colleague, Lorraine Pack, who inspired those around her to care for each other’s safety and protect the environment. Pack regularly participated in Campbell Institute events and embraced the Institute’s focus on solving global EHS challenges through innovation and research. She also mentored women of all ages on what it takes to be an EHS professional, including the importance of connecting with operational leaders and inspiring employees to improve stewardship and lead with EHS.

Only NSC student members are eligible for the Lorraine Pack Memorial Scholarship. Students can apply for a free NSC membership here. Eligible students must be enrolled in community college, a technical program, apprenticeship or bachelor’s degree program within the United States (either in-person or online). They may be enrolled full or part time and must graduate no earlier than May 2021.

The scholarship application period is open between Oct. 20, 2020, and March 31, 2021. Applications can be found here. More information on the Council’s scholarship offerings can be found at nsc.org/scholarship.
