The National Safety Council applauds soccer icon Abby Wambach for publicly discussing her struggle against prescription drug and alcohol addiction and journey to sobriety.
Millions of Americans struggle with prescription drug addictions. Despite the scope of the problem, addiction still carries a stigma that forces far too many people to live in the shadows. Addiction is a disease – not a decision. We must begin treating it accordingly, and part of that process is to have an open dialog.
Celebrities have incredible platforms to raise awareness and create change. We are grateful to see Ms. Wambach using hers in such a constructive, powerful way.
About the National Safety Council
