Itasca, IL – "The National Safety Council applauds the National Transportation Safety Board's Most Wanted List – specifically the inclusion of the traffic safety-related categories "eliminate distractions," "reduce fatigue-related accidents," "end alcohol and other drug impairment in transportation," "increase implementation of collision avoidance technologies," and "strengthen occupant protection."
"The NTSB's recommendations are based on decades of investigations – their work uncovers both the proximate causes and the contributing factors that result in thousands of fatalities in transportation every year. The Most Wanted List provides a roadmap for policymakers, organizations and individuals to follow to reduce deaths and injuries in transportation. As 95 percent of transportation deaths occur on our nation's roadways, if left unchecked, these issues will continue killing thousands of roadway users each year.
"Although our vehicles are safer than ever before, according to NHTSA, human error is responsible for 94% of crashes. The National Safety Council is committed to working with NTSB to examine these issues and promote solutions that will get us to zero preventable roadway deaths."
The National Safety Council has a broadcast TV and radio studio at its headquarters, with both HD and SD capabilities. We are happy to accommodate both live and taped interviews and work closely with your station’s tech team. Please direct inquiries to the above telephone number or email address.
