NSC Statement on Xavier Becerra's Confirmation as Secretary of Health and Human Services

With preventable deaths at an all-time high, it's time to reevaluate existing strategies.

March 18, 2021

Itasca, IL – The National Safety Council congratulates Xavier Becerra on his confirmation as Secretary of Health and Human Services. With preventable deaths – including drug overdoses – at an all-time high, it is more important than ever to reevaluate existing strategies and ask what more we can do. The pandemic has only intensified the need for this work.

NSC urges Secretary Becerra to closely examine the intersection between health and the private sector to ensure employers are part of the solution, because they play a critical role. We stand ready to assist with this, and we look forward to working with Secretary Becerra and his team.
