NSC Opens World’s Largest Annual Safety Show in Houston

More than 14,000 safety professionals expected to attend NSC Congress and Expo.

Itasca, IL – The National Safety Council is hosting its 2018 NSC Congress and Expo at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston Oct. 20-26. This year’s conference features more than 1,100 exhibitors, more than 150 educational seminars and four keynote sessions, giving attendees access to unparalleled resources to improve safety.

“With workplace deaths at their highest level in nearly a decade, safety professionals’ efforts are more important than ever,” said NSC President and CEO Deborah A.P. Hersman. “The Congress and Expo provides the tools and training to support creating a culture of safety excellence focused on eliminating deaths and injuries in the workplace.”

Keynotes for this year’s event include retired U.S. Navy Admiral William H. McRaven; Christine Clearwater, president of Drug-Free Solutions Group, LLC; The Honorable Ed Emmett, Harris County judge and director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management; Shawn Galloway, president and COO of ProAct Safety, Inc.; Rodney Grieve, facilitator at Branta Worldwide; Scott Margolin, vice president of Technical Tyndale; Corey Pitzer, CEO of SAFEmap International; Phillip Ragain, director of training and performance improvement at The RAD Group; Mike Schlappi CSP, speaker, author, Mike Schlappi Communications; and Daniel Snyder, owner of SPAN International Training, LLC.

Hot technical session topics include:

OSHA also will announce its annual list of the Top 10 most cited violations for fiscal year 2018.

NSC also will display its Prescribed to Death opioid memorial on the third floor of convention center Oct. 22-24. The memorial has been traveling the country since last November, stopping in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Buffalo, Fayetteville (Ark.), and Washington, D.C., where it was displayed on the Ellipse in front of the White House. The centerpiece of the educational exhibit is a wall of thousands of small white “pills” each carved with a human face to represent those who have fatally overdosed on prescribed opioids.

Prescribed to Death is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 23 and 24. Visitors do not need to be registered for the NSC Congress and Expo.
