Keeping Contractors Safe

Contract workers are a vulnerable population when it comes to serious injuries and fatalities on the job. With contractors often performing higher-risk jobs with little to no supervision, it is a best practice for employers to have a formal contractor management program.

The National Safety Council conducted an independent study, Making the Case for Contractor Management: Examining the Safety Benefits of Third-Party Management, with data supplied by BROWZ, LLC (now Avetta). This study examines the impact of contractor management programs – specifically prequalification – on the safety of contractors in the BROWZ database. The contractors in the study were found to have better average Total Recordable Rates (TRR), Days Away, Restricted or Transferred (DART) Rates, and Lost Workday Rates (LWR) within individual industries and all industries as a whole.
