National Safety Council assumes ownership of Texas Safety Association

Itasca, IL – The Texas safety and health industry received a boost under a new agreement announced this week by the National Safety Council and Texas Safety Association.

Under the agreement effective Jan. 4, the National Safety Council acquires ownership of Texas Safety Association assets including its name, membership and programs, which will be folded into the Council’s Dallas-based Texas Chapter. The Council assumes responsibility for servicing TSA members including management of the association’s current education programs, its annual conference and its award ceremonies.

Steve Halliburton, chairman of TSA’s board of directors, said the agreement is the result of efforts to provide members greater access to quality safety and health programs. TSA members officially voted in December to dissolve the association and to enter the agreement with the National Safety Council.

“The board felt that this could best be accomplished through a formal affiliation with the National Safety Council,” Halliburton said.

NSC’s nationwide chapter network provides members and customers with a local voice for advocating safety and health issues as well as a local presence for trainings, conferences, workshops, and consultations.

As part of the agreement, the 700 Texas Safety Association members automatically become National Safety Council members with access to its experts and resources. The addition of these members nearly doubles NSC Texas Chapter membership.

“This agreement strengthens the National Safety Council’s presence in Texas and ensures a continuity in safety and health programs and services for TSA members and NSC customers throughout the state of Texas,” said NSC President and CEO Alan C. McMillan.

Founded in 1913 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1953, the National Safety Council is the country’s leading safety and health advocate and service provider committed to preventing accidental injuries in the workplace, on roads and highways, and in homes and communities. Council members include more than 48,000 businesses, labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups and individuals.
