Washington, D.C. – The National Safety Council this week awarded its 2006 Green Cross for Safety Medal to DuPont and its Chairman and CEO Charles O. (Chad) Holliday, Jr. The award is the council´s highest recognition of corporations that have made safety a central part of their value system.
DuPont, a member of the National Safety Council since 1914, has demonstrated its commitment to safety through a number of initiatives over the course of its 200-year history, noted National Safety Council President and CEO Alan C. McMillan.
"From its beginnings, DuPont has made safety a corporate priority," McMillan said during the National Safety Council´s 7th annual Green Cross dinner held this year in Washington, D.C. "Under Chad Holliday´s stewardship, DuPont has extended its influence into 21st century safety solutions that are making a real difference in people´s lives."
McMillan cited international recognition of DuPont´s safety record while presenting the award, including a recent U.S. Bureau of Labor finding that the company has a workplace safety record 11 times better than the nation´s industrial average. Last month, DuPont was recognized by Fortune magazine as "America´s Most Admired" company in the magazine´s chemicals category.
"Recognition of this type by one´s peers in the advancement of safety is among the highest tributes an organization can achieve, and I and DuPont deeply appreciate being selected for this year´s Green Cross Safety Medal," Holliday said in his acceptance speech. "I am also humbled when I review the list of past recipients of this award. To be included in a group of such distinguished safety leaders is a deeply rewarding experience."
DuPont is the seventh recipient of the National Safety Council´s Green Cross award. Previous honorees include Liberty Mutual Group, DaimlerChrysler, Kenny Construction Company, Ryder System Inc., Intel Corporation and AK Steel Corporation.
