NSC Partners with Buckle Up for Life to Enhance Child Passenger Safety

Partnership will enhance NSC Safety Connection Virtual Resource Center, helping to bring child passenger safety services to more families across the U.S.

July 09, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Safety Council is proud to announce it has been awarded an Innovation Grant by Buckle Up for Life, a child passenger safety program from Toyota and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center aimed at bolstering child passenger safety initiatives across the United States.

Awarded specifically to the NSC Roadway Mobility Safety Impact program, this prestigious Innovation Grant from BUFL will significantly enhance the NSC Safety Connection Virtual Resource Center in providing free car seat education services to families throughout the U.S. and bringing child passenger safety services to geographic areas lacking these critical safety resources.

"We are thrilled to embark on this collaborative journey with Buckle Up for Life," said Amy Artuso, senior program manager of mobility safety impact at NSC. "This partnership reflects our shared commitment to safeguarding the lives of our youngest vehicle passengers and their families. Together, we will continue to drive positive change and promote safer roads for all."

The Safety Connection Virtual Resource Center plays a pivotal role in ensuring the correct use of car seats, booster seats and seat belts, which is a proven method of reducing injuries and fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. Recognizing the confusion and challenges families may face in keeping all children safe inside a vehicle, the Safety Connection program provides access to nationally certified child passenger safety technicians who offer tailored education based on a child’s height, weight, age and developmental level, considering the specific car seat and vehicle in use. As part of the initiative, these technicians are also provided with opportunities for recertification, contributing to the retention of CPSTs nationally.

Free virtual car seat checks are available in English and Spanish. Visit carseateducation.org/caregiver-resources to schedule an appointment. Get more information about this initiative and the Roadway Mobility Safety Impact program at NSC.
