Multiple construction companies honored by NSC traffic safety program.
RALEIGH, N.C. – The National Safety Council has announced the winners of the 2026 Our Driving Concern North Carolina Employer Traffic Safety Awards, which honor organizations for their commitment to roadway safety for their employees and all roadway users.
Transportation incidents were the leading cause of fatal workplace injuries in North Carolina in 2024, accounting for 39% of occupational fatalities, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The following five employers were recognized by NSC for their leadership, employee engagement, measurable safety outcomes and innovative approaches to roadway safety:
Archer Western Construction
For Archer Western Construction, safety is not a task-by-task priority but a fundamental value. Archer leverages dynamic driver safety training, telematics and a strong safety culture to achieve measurable success in keeping its employees and other roadway users safer.
Barnhill Contracting Company
Safety is the driving force behind every decision and action at Barnhill Contracting Company. The company’s motto, “Don’t Learn Safety by Accident,” is demonstrated in the contractor’s proactive approach to safety, routine updates of policies and procedures, layered approach to safety solutions and firm dedication to making safety central on every worksite and road traveled.
S.T. Wooten Corporation
S.T. Wooten Corporation understands firsthand that roadway safety isn’t just critical for protecting its employees, but the communities where they live and work. The paving contractor has embedded safety at the forefront of its mission, instilling and maintaining best practices through comprehensive driver training, employee engagement and data-driven solutions.
APAC Atlantic
A provider of asphalt for building projects, APAC Atlantic underscores the critical role of safety in maneuvering a large fleet. By utilizing telematics and engaging employees through a strong commitment to safety, the company empowers employees to be safer on the roadway, in the workplace and anyplace.

Blythe Construction has championed safety as a company-wide commitment, recognizing it as more than just a situational priority or project requirement. Blythe shows its unwavering commitment to protecting its employees and other roadway users with an effective, multifaceted approach, including vehicle safety technology, data aggregation and a culture anchored in safety.
“The organizations recognized today show what’s possible when roadway safety is made a priority throughout the workforce,” said Cody Stewart, senior program manager of the Employer Traffic Safety program at NSC. “Their efforts are helping employees make safer choices behind the wheel and extending that impact to everyone who shares the road.”
In partnership with the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program, the Our Driving Concern North Carolina Employer Traffic Safety program provides employers with education, training and resources to prevent crashes and make the roads safer for their employees and all roadway users.
