INDIANAPOLIS – The National Safety Council revealed the major injury and fatality events associated with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety standards for fiscal year 2026. Unveiled during the 2026 NSC Safety Congress & Expo, the findings underscore the importance of implementing proven safety measures to prevent injuries and save lives.
The OSHA Top 10 serves as a roadmap for employers, safety professionals and workers, identifying recurring hazards and opportunities to strengthen workplace safety programs. Recognizing the severity of these persistent trends, NSC analyzed Bureau of Labor Statistics injury, illness and fatality data to better understand the safety outcomes related to OSHA’s most frequently cited standards.

“Every workplace fatality represents a person who should have returned home safely at the end of the day,” said Lorraine Martin, NSC CEO. “Each year the OSHA Top 10 and data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics spotlight the hazards we know can be prevented, including the persistently high number of on-the-job transportation deaths. By learning from these incidents and acting before tragedy occurs, employers can protect their workers, improve the safety of our roads and save lives.”
