NSC Statement on Dr. Rochelle Walensky's Appointment to CDC Director

NSC stands ready to assist her and the CDC, building on a decades-long partnership.

February 02, 2021

Itasca, IL – The National Safety Council congratulates Dr. Rochelle Walensky on her appointment as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it is vital to have leadership that understands strategies for widespread acceptance of the vaccine and embraces promising innovation and technology for its use and distribution. Dr. Walensky will provide that leadership. Additionally, unintentional injuries – commonly known as “accidents” – are at an all-time high, and we know the pandemic is worsening persistent risks to our national health and wellbeing. We are committed to working with Director Walensky to reduce drug overdoses, motor vehicle crashes, falls and other incidents that prevent people from being able to live their fullest lives. We stand ready to assist her and the CDC in any way we can, building on a decades-long partnership.
