● Hazard Identification and Priority
● Hazard Abatement
● Implementation
● Continuous Improvement
Robert W. Campbell, an early pioneer of safety, was selected by his peers as the first president of the newly-formed National Safety Council in 1913. He served as chief legal counsel at Illinois Steel, one of the largest steel manufacturers in the United States, and became the first chairman of the organization’s innovative Corporate Safety Committee in 1908.
Under Robert’s guidance and leadership, the committee developed Illinois Steel’s inaugural accident prevention programs. He remained committed to safety throughout his life, and believed that EHS “is, above all…a humanitarian work.”

The award’s mission is to identify and provide evidence-based findings that enable current and future business leaders to effectively advance business vitality through embracing the value of environmental, health and safety management. The award aims to:
Establish a validated process by which organizations can measure the performance of their EHS operations system against well-tested and internationally accepted key performance indicators.
Capture and evaluate the successes and lessons learned through a rigorous systematic review process.
Foster the sharing of leading-edge EHS management systems and best practices for educational purposes worldwide.
Recognize organizations that have successfully integrated EHS as a key business value and with measurable achievements, including productivity and profitability, in EHS performance.
