Nominations Open for 2025 Prevention Through Design Award

Award recognizes innovators who reduce workplace hazards through impactful design solutions.

January 27, 2025

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is seeking nominations for its Prevention through Design (PtD) Award through March 3, 2025. This annual recognition honors innovators who eliminate or reduce workplace hazards through impactful design solutions or contribute knowledge that enables PtD innovations.

Recognizing Trailblazers in Hazard Mitigation

PtD focuses on anticipating and "designing out" workplace hazards, including facilities, work methods, processes, equipment, tools, products and work organization. This proactive approach represents the most reliable and effective type of prevention.

Nominees and past recipients have not only demonstrated their perseverance in implementing extensive measures to improve worker conditions, but also their adeptness in utilizing an “outside-the-box" mentality to facilitate groundbreaking developments.

Safety25 Conference + Expo Orlando

NIOSH presents the award in partnership with the National Safety Council, American Industrial Hygiene Association and American Society of Safety Professionals. The program welcomes nominations from individuals, teams, businesses and organizations that demonstrate benefits to U.S. workers.

Winners will be announced by September 2025 and honored at the ASSP Safety 2025 conference in Orlando, Florida. Previous nominations can be updated and resubmitted.
