Driver Safety Instructor Part-time Positions Available

The National Safety Council is the leading provider of driver safety courses dedicated to creating safer roads for all. Our mission is to save lives, from the workplace to anyplace, by educating and empowering motorists and promoting responsible and defensive driving practices.

As a part-time instructor you'll teach life-saving driver safety course curriculum to a variety of motorists, including those that may be state or court mandated to attend a driver retraining program. 

Have Experience in Any of These Jobs or Fields?

● High school or college teacher
● Counselor, or professional in special needs or disability education
● Corporate trainer (safety or otherwise)
● Law enforcement
● Psychology or sociology background
● Driver’s education instructor

Whether currently employed or looking for work post-retirement, becoming an NSC part-time driving instructor is a great way to make a difference and save lives.

● Depending on the curriculum, classes range from 4 to 8 hours. Create your own schedule; teach as much or as little as you want.

● Earn extra money! Pay starts at $35 per hour.

We're Looking for Someone With:


● Experience in public speaking with the ability to lead effective classroom discussions and handle a diverse group of students

● A background in sociology, psychology, counseling or education (preferred)

● Excellent communication skills and the ability to address unexpected difficulties, such as equipment failures, facility issues, disruptions and individuals with learning or behavioral difficulties

● Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)

● Weekend availability (preferred)

● A clean driving record (a must)

How to Become a Driver Safety Instructor

Full instructor certification training and materials will be provided. Personal email address is required for communication with our Instructor Portal.

Once selected, you will be required to observe a classroom program taught by a seasoned instructor, then take a paid, 12-hour online course and participate in two paid team-teaches.
