Lesson 14

Lesson 14: Driving in Overcast Weather

  1. Why overcast weather can be tricky
Overcast weather can be deceptive. It is day, but the sunlight that reaches the road is “flat.” There also are fewer or less pronounced shadows. This “flat” lighting may make judging distances more difficult. Unlike driving at night or in a rainstorm, the dangers of this kind of lighting may not be immediately obvious. For this reason, we recommend teens always drive with the headlights on.

  2. Practice driving in overcast weather
Practice driving in overcast weather so teens are reminded to drive with their lights on. This also helps them see the difference in their visual perception of the environment under these conditions.
