ORLANDO, Florida – The National Safety Council hosted its National Awards Celebration Tuesday evening in Orlando to recognize individuals and organizations for helping to make communities, workplaces and roads in the U.S. safer. The event is held in conjunction with the NSC Safety Congress & Expo, the nation’s largest gathering of safety and health professionals.
The following awards were presented:
Joseph M. Kaplan Safe Drivers of the Year – Recognizes professional drivers for their total driving record, including miles and years driven without a preventable crash. Winners from 2024 include David Allen (UPS Canada), Dean Bellini (Teichert Construction), Hugh J. Cahill – In Memoriam (UPS), Craig Campbell (UPS), Johnny Lemos (UPS), Timothy McDade (UPS), Merrill Muller (UPS), Jerry Sadler (UPS), Earl Sutton (UPS), Jeffrey Wieczorek (UPS), Carter Scott (U.S. Postal Service), Floyd Tackett (U.S. Postal Service), Keith Tompkins (U.S. Postal Service), Chong Wong (U.S. Postal Service).
Workplace Safety Award – Honors collective safety achievements and the implementation of effective safety policies and procedures. The 2024 winners include Leidos, Inc., AtkinsRealis US Nuclear, Jacobs, La-Z-Boy Inc., Nexteer Automotive, AES Corp, Lee Mechanical Contractors, Inc., MWH Constructors Inc., CDM Smith Inc, Golden State Foods, Amentum Services, Inc.
Corporate Culture of Safety Award – Recognizes organizations that have received more than 50 awards through the NSC awards program in 2024. Winners include La-Z-Boy Inc., Nexteer Automotive, Amentum Services, Inc., CDM Smith.
Rising Stars of Safety Award – Recognizes tomorrow’s leaders aged 40 and younger for their commitment to safety, influence on safety culture and creation of safety initiatives producing measurable outcomes. Diversity in Safety Scholarships – Support and propel young leaders of diverse backgrounds into careers in safety and health, and empower recipients to be effective safety leaders and change agents in the workplace through educational and career advancement.
