The SIF model assesses serious injury and fatality risk by evaluating and controlling existing and potential hazards and events. It does so through leadership engagement and resources to prioritize, identify and assess the presence of lethal energy alongside the assurance of controls to prevent serious injury or fatality. The model also helps set priorities for corrective action, leveraging the hierarchy of controls alongside a framework for continuous improvement.
The NSC SIF Prevention Model can be implemented by safety and health staff at the site, business unit or corporate level, with or without the assistance of a third-party.
