Safety Resources at Your Fingertips

As a safety professional, you don’t always have the answers you need. Our networking communities and diverse programming can help you identify areas for systematic improvement and build your safety toolkit of best practices in EHS.

Serious Incident and Fatality (SIF) Prevention

The SIF model assesses serious injury and fatality risk by evaluating and controlling existing and potential hazards and events. It does so through leadership engagement and resources to prioritize, identify and assess the presence of lethal energy alongside the assurance of controls to prevent serious injury or fatality. The model also helps set priorities for corrective action, leveraging the hierarchy of controls alongside a framework for continuous improvement.

The NSC SIF Prevention Model can be implemented by safety and health staff at the site, business unit or corporate level, with or without the assistance of a third-party.

Webinar: SIF Model (Jan. 29, 2025)
Perry Logan, PhD, CIH, senior director of NSC Networks, led an engaging discussion on the ins and outs of the SIF Prevention Model and how it can help organizations of all sizes evaluate and mitigate their risk of serious incidents. Watch the webinar.
