On Feb. 16, 2019, Kristina Repperger’s brother Joey accidentally overdosed on opioids. They later found out that what he thought was Oxycodone was mostly fentanyl.
Joey was declared brain dead on Feb. 19, 2019. The family made the choice to donate his organs and, as his final gift, Joey saved six other lives. This was who Joey was. He was a helper, a friend, someone who was always there if you needed him.
Kristina founded The Joey Project Inc., a 501(c)(3), in April 2019. The Joey Project’s mission, vision and values are: “We believe in empowering people by providing knowledge, bringing awareness to communities and assisting in gaining access to resources. We believe that to get through the hard parts of life you need the right tools and direction. Our goal is to connect people to these resources, provide education, assistance and advocacy when needed. We believe in a more compassionate world. A world that sees the person and families behind the addiction. A world that extends their hand, not their judgment.”
