In 2018, a distracted driver took away more than a year of Pennie Hunt's life and changed her forever. Pennie described the crash — and the effects she still lives with today — at the 2021 Green Cross Celebration in Orlando Oct. 11.
The highway patrolman who investigated the collision said several things happened that kept her from being killed: She wasn't hit by a larger vehicle, she swerved slightly left when stopped in traffic to keep from being sandwiched between cars, and she was wearing a seat belt.
Pennie also lost her 22-year-old son to an opioid overdose in 2007. As a writer and a speaker, her mission is to help others stay safe.
