James Birdsong has more than 15 years of experience across nuclear and chemical manufacturing, construction and consulting environments. He serves as a safety supervisor supporting operations at the TVA Shawnee Power Plant, where his responsibilities include risk assessments, safety audits, training and regulatory compliance. His career has included leadership roles in high-hazard operations, including process safety, incident investigation, contractor safety and hazard analysis. A U.S. Army Veteran and former communications sergeant, James brings his military leadership experience to his work in safety and is continuing his education to prepare for broader safety leadership responsibilities.

Jeff Burroughs is an environmental, health and safety coordinator with Crown Cork & Seal, bringing experience in military service, public safety, project management and manufacturing. Following four years in the U.S. Air Force, he spent nearly 20 years with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, developing expertise in safety enforcement, emergency response, regulatory compliance and leadership. He later spent nearly a decade in project management before transitioning into EHS. In his current role, Jeff applies this experience to support regulatory compliance, strengthen safety culture and advance continuous improvement, while continuing to develop as a safety leader.

Darrell Caron is director of human resources for Lacerta Group, where his responsibilities have expanded to include workplace safety in a manufacturing environment. He brings more than 20 years of business and human resources leadership experience, including workforce development, organizational transformation and employee relations. Darrell also served in the U.S. Army Reserve and Massachusetts Army National Guard, retiring as a major after a military career that included service in Iraq and command of a medical company. He is expanding his safety expertise to strengthen workplace practices and prepare for opportunities to serve as a senior advisor in organizational safety.

Stephen Cole is an operations and safety leader working in the utility and nuclear sectors. His served as a behavior-based safety program owner and acting superintendent of safety at a nuclear site, as well as conducting safety reviews and mentoring personnel across multiple nuclear facilities. During his U.S. Marine Corps service with HMX-1, Stephen worked in high-stakes aviation environments supporting presidential operations, where procedural compliance, risk management and operational discipline were essential. Todd Colichia is transitioning into the construction safety profession following more than 26 years of military and law enforcement experience. He served more than 10 years in the Texas Army National Guard in leadership roles including tank commander, platoon sergeant and convoy commander, completing more than 100 combat missions. He later served as a master peace officer with the City of Hurst Police Department, where his responsibilities included operational safety, training, risk assessment and personnel development. With OSHA 30 Construction training completed, Todd is preparing to begin his civilian safety career with the long-term goal of advancing into construction safety leadership.

John Contreras is a construction safety professional with Weigand Construction, where he supports safety across multiple projects and helps ensure compliance with company procedures and OSHA requirements. He holds the Associate Safety Professional credential and has training in fall protection, excavation and trenching, confined spaces, scaffolding, first aid and other areas of construction safety. During six years in the U.S. Army, John served as a medic, developing experience in emergency response, risk assessment and decision-making under pressure. Shawn Crosby is an environmental health and safety professional with experience leading safety initiatives in industrial and engineering environments. During eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps, he served as a combat engineer and platoon sergeant, leading Marines in high-risk operations involving construction, heavy equipment and explosives. He also supported humanitarian and disaster response operations following Super Typhoons Mangkhut and Yutu in the Pacific. A veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, Phillip brings military experience in logistics and administration to his approach to operational discipline and safety. Daniel DeCicco is director of regional safety for Air Methods, where he leads safety management, hazard analysis, risk mitigation, audits and training across a large air medical aviation network. He brings more than 25 years of aviation and aerospace experience, including 20 years in the U.S. Navy as a pilot and safety leader. His military experience included aircraft mishap investigation, root cause analysis, human factors and aviation safety program management. Aaron DeCurtins serves as safety superintendent for the 114th Fighter Wing, South Dakota Air National Guard, where he advises senior leadership on occupational safety and health matters affecting more than 1,100 personnel. His experience includes safety program management, hazard assessment, mishap investigation, regulatory compliance and safety training, as well as a decade working in munitions inspection. Aaron has a master’s degree in occupational safety and health, a bachelor’s in industrial engineering, and the Certified Safety Professional credential. After 21 years of military service, he continues to expand his knowledge and leadership within the safety profession.

Jordan D'Hereaux is a safety analyst with U.S. Marine Management, where she leads safety improvement initiatives across a multi-vessel fleet. She developed a data-driven near-miss reporting program that contributed to a 52% reduction in recordable injuries and increased proactive reporting. Her work also includes safety management systems, human factors, behavioral safety, risk assessment, training and regulatory compliance. During 10 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, Jordan gained experience in operational risk management, emergency response and high-risk search and rescue operations. He serves as a food service director and account manager in long-term care, where he manages kitchen operations and trains employees in food safety, sanitation, equipment use and regulatory requirements. During his U.S. Army service, Anthony worked as a food service specialist and developed a foundation in workplace and food safety. Don Elswick is an occupational environmental health and safety professional, consultant and educator with extensive experience in industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, occupational health and exposure assessment. During 32 years of U.S. Navy service, he held roles including industrial hygiene officer and preventive medicine/environmental health officer in shipboard and deployed environments. Don holds multiple professional credentials, including Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, and currently teaches emergency and environmental management at Columbia Southern University. Gerardo is a TxDOT instructor, applying his safety knowledge to workforce education and development. Keaton Holland is co-owner of Formation Industries, a security and safety consulting business serving organizations such as businesses, schools and churches. His professional background is rooted in security leadership, including his current role as security lead with Sight & Sound Theatres. During six years in the Army National Guard, Keaton served as a sergeant responsible for personnel, equipment, vehicles and operational safety. Jerry Hollingsworth is a safety professional with Doosan Bobcat, bringing decades of manufacturing experience and extensive responsibility for employee training and workplace safety. During his career with the company, he has served as a safety point of contact, safety liaison and trainer in areas including lockout/tagout, confined space, forklift operation, respiratory protection and first aid. Xena Hoye is safety director for Concord General Contracting, where she leads safety strategy, training, risk management and regulatory compliance across more than 30 active construction sites. She brings more than nine years of experience spanning occupational safety, emergency management, disaster response and HAZMAT operations. During her U.S. Air Force service, Xena served as an emergency management and safety coordinator and supported the 2021 Afghan airlift at Al Udeid Air Base, including emergency operations and the safe processing of more than 52,000 people. She is continuing her safety education while pursuing additional credentials, including CHST and CSP.

Michael Jensen is safety & training manager for Marion County’s Office of the County Engineer, where he leads safety initiatives across construction, maintenance and infrastructure operations. His responsibilities include regulatory compliance, risk assessments, incident investigations, employee training, hazardous materials management and emergency preparedness. During 21 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, Michael served in engineering, safety and law enforcement roles and developed extensive experience in inspections, hazard analysis, emergency response and occupational safety programs. He is continuing his professional development to strengthen his capabilities in large-scale safety program management and organizational safety leadership.

Michael Johnson is a safety representative with Energy Transfer, supporting pipeline operations across central Texas. He conducts site inspections and incident investigations, facilitates safety meetings, develops site-specific orientations and facility driving plans, and works with employees, contractors and management to strengthen safety performance. Before transitioning into safety, Michael spent eight years as a pipeline technician. During 21 years in the Army National Guard, he served in leadership roles, including company first sergeant, and deployed to Afghanistan as part of a security force advisor team. He is continuing his education as he prepares for increased responsibility in safety and operational excellence.

Arthur Jordan is a retired U.S. Air Force leader transitioning into the occupational safety profession after 20 years of military service. As wing corrosion manager and work center NCOIC, he oversaw aircraft and equipment maintenance operations involving fabrication, coatings, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, respiratory protection and lockout/tagout programs. His military experience also included responsibility for facility inspections, risk management, employee training and workplace health hazards. Following retirement, Arthur gained civilian manufacturing management experience and is building on his operational background and OSHA training to pursue a career in workplace safety.

Mark Kellogg is northwest regional EHS manager for Admiral Beverage Corp., where he directs safety programs across facilities in Idaho, eastern Oregon and Montana for more than 1,200 employees. His responsibilities include audits, inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, employee training and regulatory compliance. During 27 years in the U.S. Navy, Mark worked extensively in aviation ordnance and served as an explosive safety quality assurance safety observer, developing expertise in hazard assessment, procedural compliance and high-risk operations. He holds a bachelor’s in occupational safety and health and continues to strengthen his capabilities as a regional safety leader.

Ilissa Rhai Kennon is a safety specialist with Freese and Nichols and continues to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Her experience spans occupational and construction safety, risk management, mishap prevention, site inspections and hazard recognition. During 13 years of military service, Ilissa has applied risk management principles and aviation mishap investigation techniques to identify hazards, assess risk and develop effective controls. She holds OSHA training in general industry and construction. Ilissa is continuing her education as she works toward greater safety leadership responsibilities, with the goal of advancing into safety and risk management and eventually director-level leadership.

Jessie Kros is a risk and safety analyst with the Housing Authority of Snohomish County, where they manage incident investigations, conduct safety and habitability inspections across 48 properties, develop health and safety policies, and support regulatory compliance. Their work also includes insurance, emergency management, risk analysis and safety procedures supporting employees in maintenance, construction and administrative operations. During nine and a half years in the Army National Guard and Reserve, Jessie developed experience in risk assessment, hazard recognition, after-action reviews and operational planning. They are continuing their safety education to expand their technical expertise and strengthen safety programs across their organization.

Cody Kubiak is hydroelectric generation site supervisor with Puget Sound Energy, where he oversees maintenance, personnel, contractors and safe operations at a hydroelectric dam, fish hatchery and recreation facilities. Previously, he managed two wind energy sites and maintained strong safety performance while overseeing turbine operations, fleet compliance and workforce development. During 10 years in the U.S. Army, Cody served in leadership and planning roles that included environmental compliance officer, range safety officer and safety planner. He is continuing his education to strengthen safety performance in his current role and prepare for broader safety leadership opportunities.

Tia Langston is a safety and compliance professional with eight years of experience in the Safety Office at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where she specializes in injury reporting, safety data, regulatory documentation and trend analysis. Her broader career includes healthcare, pharmacy, radiological controls and regulatory compliance. During six and a half years in the U.S. Navy, Tia served in medical roles including Corpsman, EMT and trauma care, developing experience in emergency response, risk assessment and high-pressure decision-making. Madison Leonard is wing safety superintendent for the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base, where he leads a 12-member safety team supporting 48 units and about 30,000 personnel. His responsibilities include mishap investigations, trend analysis, safety inspections, risk controls and oversight of more than 100 Unit safety representatives. Madison began his Air Force career in aircraft maintenance before transitioning into occupational safety in 2015 and has since held progressively responsible safety leadership positions. With more than 16 years of military experience, he is continuing his education as he prepares to transition his safety leadership experience to the civilian sector.

Shannon Lepley is an early-career safety professional with the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, building on more than two decades of U.S. Army leadership and operations experience. During 23 years of military service, she managed complex logistics, personnel, training and organizational operations, including responsibility for thousands of personnel and large-scale programs. Her military experience also developed her approach to risk assessment, accountability, after-action reviews and continuous improvement. Shannon has completed training in OSHA General Industry, hazardous materials and workplace safety and is continuing her safety education to deepen her expertise in hazard analysis, regulatory standards and safety management systems as she advances in the profession.

Stephanie LeVeque is safety director for Legacy Cooperative, where she oversees safety programs for 185 employees across 29 grain and agronomy locations. Her responsibilities include OSHA and EPA compliance, audits, incident investigations, employee training and continuous improvement of company safety systems. Stephanie also continues to serve in the North Dakota National Guard and has 12 years of military experience as a tactical power generation specialist, radio and communications security repairer and sergeant. She holds an associate degree in occupational safety and health and is working toward advanced safety credentials and broader safety leadership responsibilities.

Shawn Lewis is a certified safety professional with more than 25 years of experience in occupational safety, system safety, risk management and regulatory compliance. He serves as a support services supervisor with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where his responsibilities include facilities, fleet, physical security and occupational safety and health. Previously, he served as a safety and occupational health manager and senior safety advisor for USDA operations nationwide. During 21 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Shawn served as a ground safety specialist and ground safety officer. He is working toward a doctoral degree.

Angelina Manby is occupational safety manager for the 433rd Airlift Wing at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, where she manages safety inspections, hazard abatement, mishap investigations, training, risk management and regulatory compliance. Her 24-year Air Force career includes aircraft electrical and environmental systems and 16 years in occupational safety leadership. Angelina has supported both active-duty and Reserve operations and deployed in support of multiple military missions. As she prepares to retire from military service, she is expanding her education to translate her experience in aviation and military operations into safety leadership in manufacturing and other civilian industries.

Derrick Mathis is a school resource officer training and program coordinator with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, where he leads statewide training initiatives for more than 1,000 law enforcement officers and school safety professionals. His work includes curriculum development, crisis response preparation, interagency collaboration and school safety program improvement. Derrick previously served in law enforcement and as a school resource officer before serving as a horizontal construction engineer in the U.S. Army Reserve. He is continuing his education to strengthen risk management and program development while expanding his leadership in school and community safety, preparedness and professional training.

Katie McDonald is a compliance safety and health officer with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, where she conducts inspections and investigates workplace injuries, fatalities, complaints and regulatory violations across multiple industries. Her experience includes more than 180 OSHA inspections, including significant enforcement cases, and previous work in the nuclear power industry. During her U.S. Army service, Katie developed experience in hazard recognition and risk assessment while preparing for and completing a deployment to Iraq. She holds a master’s degree in environmental science and policy and is continuing her education to expand her industrial safety expertise and professional capabilities.

Nathan McElroy is an occupational health and safety specialist supporting Boeing 787 Final Assembly in Charleston, where he conducts inspections, audits, incident investigations, risk assessments and corrective action follow-up in aircraft manufacturing operations. A certified safety professional, Nathan previously led environmental health and safety programs for a major academic health system. During 22 years in the U.S. Army, he managed aviation safety and health programs, advised senior leaders on operational risk, and led safety audits and investigations across multiple locations. Nathan is continuing his professional development as he prepares for expanded leadership responsibilities in enterprise safety, compliance and risk management.

Anthony McKee is deputy chief of the Occupational Safety Division for Air Mobility Command, where he advises on safety programs affecting about 60,000 personnel and complex aviation and logistics operations. His career includes leadership roles with the U.S. Army Transportation Command and Air Force occupational safety programs, as well as five years as an OSHA compliance safety and health officer. Anthony’s experience spans accident investigation, risk management, regulatory compliance, transportation safety and program development across military, construction and industrial environments. A certified safety professional and safety management professional, he is continuing his education to strengthen his capabilities as a senior safety leader and technical advisor.

Nelson Mejia is a health and safety professional with extensive experience in occupational safety, healthcare, diving operations, emergency response and industrial environments. During 27 years in the U.S. Navy, he served as a corpsman and healthcare safety leader, overseeing medical operations and providing safety oversight for shipboard, diving, salvage and field activities. A retired U.S. Army staff sergeant and former flight medic, Adam completed two combat tours in Afghanistan and has extensive experience in emergency services, crash rescue, search and rescue, and medical evacuation. Phil Murphy is deputy director of compliance for the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health, where he leads statewide enforcement operations and supports the training and development of safety personnel. During his ADOSH career, he has also served as interim director, industrial hygienist and safety compliance officer, reviewing complex inspections and investigations and advancing agency process improvement and outreach efforts. Phil served 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including as a ground safety manager in both garrison and deployed environments. He holds the CSP and CHST credentials and is continuing his professional education to expand beyond regulatory enforcement into broader, proactive safety management and leadership.

Tara Marie Ornstein is an environmental scientist with the New Jersey Army National Guard, where she supports occupational and environmental health for about 6,000 Guard members. Her work includes hazard identification, risk assessment, environmental health training, heat stress prevention, hearing conservation and exposure control. Tara also brings extensive civilian public health experience, including environmental compliance and occupational risk mitigation for federally funded programs and healthcare facilities. She holds a master of public health and multiple environmental and occupational health credentials. Tara is continuing her safety education to integrate her public health expertise with advanced occupational safety practices and prepare to lead comprehensive safety programs.

Chase Peterson is a safety specialist with experience directing safety activities across multiple worksites, including audits, incident investigations, workers’ compensation, hazard assessments, employee training and regulatory compliance. He also continues to serve in the Iowa National Guard as a medical operations NCO, where he leads medical personnel, coordinates training and emergency response, and advises leadership on readiness and risk mitigation. During 15 years of military service, Chase developed a strong foundation in risk assessment, situational awareness and operational decision-making. Brian Porter is director of health, safety, security and environmental quality for Southern Devall Towing, where he applies more than 20 years of U.S. Coast Guard experience to commercial maritime safety. During his Coast Guard career, Brian served as a marine inspector and casualty investigator, overseeing regulatory compliance for commercial vessels and shoreside facilities and advising senior Coast Guard leadership on complex investigations and maritime safety issues.
