Dr. Amy Harper Appointed to National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health

Twelve-member committee advises Secretaries of Labor and Health and Human Services.

Itasca, IL – The National Safety Council is proud to announce that Dr. Amy Harper, director of workplace strategy and consulting operations, has been appointed to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH). The 12-member committee advises, consults with and makes recommendations to the Secretaries of Labor and Health and Human Services on matters relating to occupational safety and health.

“It is an honor to serve on a committee that directs the national dialog on worker safety and health,” said Dr. Harper. “Having been a leader in workplace safety for more than 100 years, the Council looks forward to this opportunity to better protect workers today and make recommendations on the emerging workplace safety issues of tomorrow.”

NACOSH members are appointed by the Secretary of Labor to represent labor, management, safety and health professionals, and the public. Dr. Harper will represent management.

Dr. Harper has been employed in the field of safety and health for more than 20 years as a strategist, consultant and trainer. In her role at the National Safety Council, Dr. Harper works to strengthen the competency of safety practitioners, encourages organizations to mature in their safety journey and contributes to the science and practice of EHS. She also heads workplace consulting operations for the Council, helping clients take steps to move beyond compliance, implement safety management systems and enhance the capabilities of their safety practitioners in the fundamentals of safety and health management.

The Committee holds at least two meetings per year at the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. Meetings are open to the public.
