NSC Presents Advanced Technology Services Inc. with 2023 Robert W. Campbell Award

Industrial services leader innovates new ways to advance holistic safety culture.

October 23, 2023

NEW ORLEANS – The National Safety Council, America’s leading nonprofit safety advocate, is proud to announce Advanced Technology Services, Inc. (ATS), as the winner of its 2023 Robert W. Campbell Award. The elite accolade, named after the Council’s first president, is one of the top honors an organization can achieve and recognizes companies that have attained business excellence through the integration of environment, health and safety management as a key business function.

Representatives from ATS, an industry leader in technology-driven industrial maintenance and maintenance, repair and operations asset management, accepted the award Oct. 23 during the opening session of the 2023 NSC Safety Congress and Expo, the world’s largest gathering of safety and health professionals.

“It’s well known across the safety community that the absence of injury does not indicate the presence of safety, and ATS has truly taken this sentiment to heart to ensure their workers are able to live their healthiest, fullest lives both on and off the clock,” said Lorraine Martin, NSC president and CEO. “The company’s ‘Beyond Zero’ multi-faceted approach to employee wellbeing – which considers physical, social, financial and emotional factors – is a fantastic case study on how even organizations with a well-established safety culture can continue to refine their safety practices to drive positive results for their workers and their bottom line. It’s a great honor to be able to recognize the impact of this work with the Campbell Award.”

Campbell Award applicants are evaluated based on their ability to integrate their EHS management system into business practices. In 2018, after identifying synergies between safety and wellness, ATS transitioned health and employee wellbeing from a traditionally held HR function to a responsibility of the company’s EHS team. The company’s “live safety” culture focuses on enhancing workplace safety beyond the scope of compliance to empower employees to live their healthiest, fullest lives, both on and off the clock.

“No one wants to work for an unsafe company, and no one wants to hire an unsafe company. ‘Live Safety’ is our No. 1 cultural commitment at ATS, and it is central to our systems and processes to protect every one of us,” said Jeff Owens, CEO of Advanced Technology Services. “Equally important is fostering an environment where people feel valued, secure and connected to the company’s mission. This award is a reflection and celebration of our team’s hard work to make factories run better and keep each other safe.”

The Campbell Award is underwritten by the Exxon Mobil Corporation and Cummins, Inc. It is named for Robert W. Campbell, a safety pioneer and the first president of the National Safety Council. Visit CampbellAward.org for more information.
