OE-SSHE Personal Safety & Security Director, Exxon Mobil Corp.

Ms Gomez-Smith has extensive operations and safety leadership experience having worked in senior operating leadership positions in both the U.S. and abroad. Cheryl previously served as the lead country manager for Exxon Mobil's Kazakhstan business. Over her career, she has been directly responsible for the safety and health of thousands of employees and contractors, as well as developing “the world’s best solutions” to safety challenges as Exxon Mobil moves toward its objective of eliminating high-consequence injuries and fatalities.”

She began her career with Exxon in 1990 as a facilities engineer in Texas and has held various technical and leadership roles of increasing responsibility in the USA, Qatar and Russia. She has onshore and offshore experience in facilities engineering, reservoir engineering, construction and project development and execution, and operations management.

For over two years Cheryl was a producing operations manager in ExxonMobil Global Operations, responsible for development, execution and sustainment of ExxonMobil Global Best Practices. In 2009-2013, Cheryl was the Operations Manager for Exxon Neftegas Ltd., operator of the Sakhalin-1 project in Russia, where she was responsible for ExxonMobil’s production operations business and engineering in the Russian Far East.

Cheryl is an American citizen and graduated from the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, USA) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and from Tulane University (Louisiana, USA) with an MBA.
