John Kotchish

Risk Manager & Director of Employee Services, Kinsley
John has worn many hats since he joined Kinsley in 1977, and is frequently called upon to develop solutions where leadership is needed or processes are broken. His diverse work assignments, along with lifelong participation in Boy Scouting and dozens of years as an emergency medical technician, have proven that John is and always will “be prepared.”

John started in the field as a laborer and continued as a bridge carpenter and concrete finisher. All the while, he was a volunteer firefighter with the York Township Fire Department, where he eventually became fire chief. His training and experience in emergency services made him an obvious candidate for safety director when Kinsley created the position in 1985. Before long, John was successfully juggling that position along with dispatcher responsibilities and concrete superintendent duties. Later, John applied his people skills to become the properties manager for Kinsley Properties, a position he held for eight years.

It was John’s caring concern for people that led him back to the Safety Department. There he spearheaded the culture change that helps Kinsley control losses. John takes his commitments very seriously, and he is totally committed to providing safe work environments that enable employees to grow, be successful, and return home unhurt every day. Through his long history with Kinsley, John has learned that successful employees yield a successful company. John continues to promote the attitude and economies of safety as his responsibilities have grown to encompass the diversified Kinsley divisions and Kinsley sister companies.

John loves his current job, which includes overseeing safety, training and insurance claims. As he has been given varied opportunities and useful tools throughout his career, John tries to do the same. No matter what organization or situation he finds himself in, John trusts that good employees, given the freedom to do their job, will flourish and grow into bigger and better opportunities.
